Flamingo Season at Bhigwan: What to Expect
Every winter, thousands of flamingos descend on the Ujani backwaters. Here is how to time your visit, what to pack, and why a boat safari at sunrise is worth setting your alarm for.

Flamingo season around Bhigwan generally runs from late October to early March, with December through February giving the most reliable sightings. Water levels, weather, and local movement patterns can still change day to day, so flexibility always helps.
For first-time visitors, sunrise is the best window. The light is soft, the birds are active, and the backwaters are calmer. If you are staying at The Big1 Estate, an early tea and quick drive gets you to the launch point with time to spare.
Pack light but smart: a cap, neutral layers, sunscreen, a small water bottle, and binoculars if you have them. You do not need pro camera gear to enjoy the experience. Even phone cameras do well in golden-hour light.
If your goal is a relaxed weekend from Pune, keep day one for check-in and farm downtime, and do birdwatching the next morning. That rhythm makes the trip feel restorative instead of rushed.
